Aluminium Flat Bar Metal

Aluminium flat bar is a flat piece of aluminium with a rectangular cross-section, measured by width first and then thickness. The material is lightweight, carries high corrosion resistance, and finds use across numerous industries, from general fabrication, furniture components, signage, and outdoor applications.

Aluminium flat bars are supplied in mill finish as standard, which shows the natural grain of the material. Satin/brushed and mirror-polished finishes are also available from our London store.

Sizes, Widths, and Dimensions

Our aluminium flat bar range covers widths from 12.7mm to 31.8mm, with a standard thickness of 3.2mm and a stock length of 2.5m. Dimensions are measured in metric, so all sizes are listed in mm on the product page.

If the stock size does not match your project requirements, we cut aluminium flat bar to your exact size. Custom cut orders reduce material waste and mean you receive the precise dimensions you need without having to trim down a larger section yourself.

For details on specific thickness options, lengths, or widths outside the standard range, contact our sales team directly.

Finishes

Aluminium flat bar from London Metal Store is available in three finishes:

Mill Finish — the natural state of the material, showing the grain of the aluminium. This is the standard finish across the range.

Satin / Brushed Finish — applied in-house to the face and edges of the flat bar. This finish works well for furniture components, interior applications, and display projects where a smooth surface finish is required.

Mirror Polished Finish — a high-gloss, reflective surface suited to decorative applications and display work.

Common Uses of Aluminium Flat Bar

Aluminium flat bar is a popular choice across a wide variety of applications. The low weight, strength, and corrosion resistance of the material suit both indoor and outdoor use across numerous industries.

Common applications include frames, brackets, shelving supports, furniture components, signage backing, gate and railing components, and general metalwork. Aluminium flat bar is also suitable for DIY use where a lightweight flat section is required.

Properties and Benefits of Aluminium Flat Bar

Aluminium is a silver-coloured, low-density metal with moderate strength and excellent corrosion resistance. The material does not rust and performs well in outdoor and damp environments, which makes it a reliable option where durability over time matters.

Aluminium flat bars are significantly lighter than steel equivalents, which makes them easier to handle on site and a go-to option where keeping weight down is important. The material cuts and drills cleanly with standard metalworking tools, so it fits just as well on a trade job as it does on a smaller DIY project.

Flat bars can be painted or powder coated to hit a specific colour finish. For projects where appearance matters, the satin and mirror polished options from London Metal Store give a clean, refined result without needing additional surface treatment.
